OB-SX magicBox · Parameter-Feedback

Warum Parameter-Feedback?

Gruppe 1 (CC 25) enthält sechs Schalter, Gruppe 2 (CC 26) sieben.

Ohne Parameter-Feedback: Controllerwerte senden

Why parameter feedback?

Parameter feedback keeps the MIDI controller in sync with the sound loaded through the magicBox. After a Program Change or a preset or user-memory load through the magicBox, the parameter values are also sent to the MIDI controller.

This is particularly important for the OB-SX switches: several switches are transmitted together. To change one switch while preserving the others, the magicBox needs to know the state of the complete group.

OB-SX switch groups

Group 1 (CC 25) contains six switches; group 2 (CC 26) contains seven. Each group is combined into one byte and sent to the OB-SX as a whole, even when only one switch changes.

With parameter feedback: automatic synchronisation

When a Program Change or preset or memory load is performed through the magicBox, all program parameters are sent to both the OB-SX and the MIDI controller. The controller values then match the loaded sound.

Without parameter feedback: send the controller values

A MIDI controller that can send all its current values at the push of a button allows manual synchronisation. On the BCR2000, hold EDIT and then press the < button.

The magicBox receives and processes these values, then forwards them to the OB-SX. This applies the controller’s values to the synthesizer; it does not read the current sound from the OB-SX.

Changing programs directly on the OB-SX

If you change programs on the OB-SX itself, neither the magicBox nor the MIDI controller receives the new parameter values. Automatic synchronisation cannot take place.

The current on/off states of the switch groups are therefore unknown. To establish a known state again, set the switches on the controller or transmit its complete set of values.

Rotary controls adjust their parameters independently. However, the first movement may cause a jump to the transmitted controller value. The controller and synthesizer then agree on that parameter.
